ACUPUNCTURE

Originating in China over 2000 years ago, acupuncture has been used and developed in many parts of the world for many, many years.  Today, its effectiveness is validated by both the World Health Organisation and increasing amounts of research which are proving it to be a powerful form of natural medicine, (something the Chinese understood many centuries before the conception of Western medicine).  Not only has acupuncture been shown to relax tense muscles and moderate the experience of pain; it has also been shown to regulate the major systems in the body.  Thus, by balancing the energy of the patient;

·         Acupuncture alleviates symptoms;

·         Acupuncture alleviates the side effects of western medicine;

·         Acupuncture will increase energy levels;

·         Acupuncture restores and promotes robust health and living

How does Acupuncture work?

Western Medicine views diagnosis and illness as tangible biochemical concepts that cause different pathologies.  Such an approach works to apply labels, names and categories to conditions.  Whilst this approach aims to promote understanding and acceptance, in cases where a label doesn’t fit, the result can be confusion and helplessness.

In contrast, Chinese Medicine or acupuncture views illness or dis-ease in a much simpler way, i.e. dis-ease results from imbalances in the flow of Universal Life Energy or Qi, at any level of a person’s mind, body or spirit, where;

Mind      - refers to our ability to think and understand.  An imbalanced mind predisposes one to symptoms such as indecision, forgetfulness, inability to concentrate, obsession, dyslexia etc

Body     - refers to our physical being/structure.  Physical imbalances tend to present as aches and pains or obvious changes in bodily function.

Spirit     - refers to the place of origin or seat of our emotions. The Chinese believe that the health of one’s Spirit is critical for promoting health and recovery.

Thus by using fine needles to connect with and rebalance a person’s Qi, acupuncture focuses on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms, labels or categories.  In summary, acupuncture works to;

·        Stimulate the body’s own healing response; and

·        Recover the balance between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual.
